BAM Domain Names ?

Last revised:
never

Answer

The original BAM domain name (www.bam.monaco.mc) was part of a shared hosting service and was really intended for personal pages (i.e. free). As part of the new web site, BAM has chosen a new top-level domain (TLD) which relate to how people could easily recognise the BAM brand, namely the words "BAM" and "Monaco". The three major TLD of .com , .net and .org plus the combination of BAM and Monaco both with a hyphen i.e. bam-monaco and without i.e. bammonaco have been registered (giving 6 combinations). The main web site is here on www.bam-monaco.org and all the other 5 domain names plus the old domain name all redirect to this site.

Top level domains such as com/net/org are very cheap to obtain so getting the 6 permutations is a low cost way of making it safer that your domain will not be "typosquatted" (This is where other people host not-always-nice images or material on the chance that your customers will accidently type in the wrong domain name).

By registering the obvious combinations and redirecting all of them to the main web site we make it safer for BAM members even if they guess the wrong domain name.
