The BAM Community Support Team offers practical, pastoral and financial help to the British and Commonwealth citizens in Monaco and neighbouring areas. Contrary to the general opinion that people living in Monaco must be wealthy, it comes as a surprise to learn that there are many instances of need. With an increasing age expectancy, the elderly are particularly vulnerable, often through no fault of their own. Newcomers to the area are grateful for help in dealing with the authorities, particularly if they do not speak French.

Young mothers housebound due to a sick child, or ill themselves, can be helped with shopping or school runs.

We have lists of English-speaking doctors, dentists, nurses and carers and are used to dealing with unusual queries. Divorce, bereavement and terminal illness can be helped by counseling and there are local support groups.  The Committee has visited many local nursing homes and can advise on suitability.

Our volunteers can help with lifts, shopping, hospital and home visits and can provide "talking books" for the visually impaired. On the financial side, the Committee is well aware of its responsibility to help only cases in real need.  Confidentiality is ensured and we have been able to help with rent, medical insurance and in certain cases pay pensions.  One-off payments have also been given towards unexpected expenses.

Anyone prepared to offer or wanting help should contact:
Community Support Team by email; bam@monaco.mc

or by using this contact form.
